Introduction and Background
Can you briefly introduce yourself and your role at the company?
Hi! I’m Kenzie, and I lead the creative services team here at Paytient.
How long have you been working here, and what drew you to this position?
I’ve been working at Paytient since 2019, so nearly six years now! I love coming to work and feeling like I get to make a difference in someone’s ability to get the care they need.
Morning Routine
What does your morning routine look like before heading to work?
I have an 8-month-old, so my mornings usually revolve around getting him ready for daycare! Once he’s dropped off, I head to the gym, then make coffee and eat breakfast before starting my work day.
Do you have any rituals or habits that help you kick-start your day?
I function off to-do lists, so I typically write in my notebook at the start of each day—every item that has to get done and any other items I’d like to get done!
How do you prioritize tasks for the day ahead?
Usually, it’s based on which creative items will have the biggest impact on our team’s goals, Paytient’s goals, and our members! We have a dashboard in a tool called Jira that helps keep us on track.
Workday Insights
What are your primary responsibilities at work, and how do you manage them?
I manage a team of creatives, and my biggest responsibility is to them. Making sure they are ready to take on their projects and have all of the context and information they need. I review to make sure all of our items are within brand guidelines!
Can you walk us through your workflow and any tools or systems you use regularly?
I spend a lot of my time in Jira, managing the projects that my team is working on. The other half of my time is typically spent in Figma, where we create our pieces!
How do you handle interruptions or unexpected challenges during the day?
We love a good challenge on our team, so we never shy away from a new one! We try to roll with the punches as best as we can on our team. Since we support many teams within the company, we have to be ready for anything! However, I try to coach my team to not just be “Yes” or “No” people, but instead, to be “Why” people. Ask for as much context as someone will give, and you’ll find that not only does the work turn out much better, but it also turns around faster!
Balance and Decompression
How do you find time to decompress during your workday?
I usually hang out with my pups and take them on a walk if I need to step away for a few minutes!
Do you take regular breaks, and if so, how do you spend them?
Honestly, not really! Which is probably not the healthiest answer. I typically like to sit and complete all of my tasks for the day. If I need to step away to think about something a little more, I’ll go on a walk, listen to an audiobook, or take a quick bike ride to clear my head.
What strategies do you use to maintain a healthy work-life balance?
My husband and I love to travel, so we also take weeks off at a time to go on an adventure every so often, which really helps get the creative juices flowing again!
After Work
Once you've finished work for the day, how do you transition into your personal time?
I do my typical “shutdown” routine, where I tack off my to-do lists and prep my to-dos for the next day. I usually unwind a little bit by reading or scrolling social media before I go pick my son up from daycare!
What activities or hobbies do you enjoy outside of work?
I enjoy hiking, reading, doodling, and traveling with my family.
How do you unwind and recharge in the evenings?
I read a book after the baby goes to bed every night and try my best to stay off social media before I go to sleep!
Closing Thoughts
Do you have any tips or advice for others looking to improve their daily routines or work-life balance?
Embrace the “why” and don’t be afraid to ask questions when you have them. You might be surprised by the answers you get!
Any final thoughts or messages for readers who may be interested in learning from your experiences?
Do what keeps your fire burning! For me, that means being creative outside of work and traveling. Your job hired you for you, so do what you can to be the best you you can be!
